- homeless
- at risk of homelessness
- without a home after an emergency.
Help is available if you are:
- escaping family violence
- homeless, or at risk of homelessness
- experiencing another housing-related emergency.
Crisis support
Support is available if you or someone close to you is experiencing:
- emotional or mental distress
- domestic, family and sexual violence
- financial insecurity.

The Ask Izzy website acts as a directory to help you find support in a location near you.
In addition to housing, it can help you find support such as free meals, clothing, showers, emergency funds and counselling.

It also explains how changes to your accommodation can affect your payment.

Social, public and community housing
There are different rules for accessing long term social, public or community housing in each state and territory.
National Housing and Homelessness Plan
The government consulted across Australia to inform the delivery of its housing and homelessness programs, and the development of a National Housing and Homelessness Plan.
Public consultations on the National Plan took place from in late 2023 and included:
- face-to-face community forums
- stakeholder roundtables and
- online webinars.
