The Crisis and Transitional Accommodation Program is a 5-year capital works program. It is part of the Housing Australia Future Fund.

The program provides grants to fund building, remodelling, expanding or purchasing new accommodation.

Housing and women’s safety

This commitment aligns with the National Plan to End Violence against Women and Children 2022–2032.

The program complements the Safe Places emergency accommodation program. Safe Places provides crisis accommodation for women and children experiencing family and domestic violence.

Project funding

On 2 February 2025, the Australian Government announced funding for 42 projects. Forty-one organisations will deliver the projects across Australia.

This will:

  • provide safe and secure accommodation for hundreds of women and their children each year
  • decrease the strain on the crisis accommodation system
  • help to meet the need for transitional housing
  • strengthen pathways into longer-term housing options for women and children and older women at risk of homelessness.
