Federal Budget

The Budget is the Australian Government’s plan for collecting and spending money

In short

Every year the Treasurer delivers the Federal Budget.

The Federal Budget provides:

  • a forecast for Australia's economy and finances
  • the government's fiscal policy for the coming years
  • estimates of government revenue and expenses.

Treasury’s role

We are responsible for producing and delivering the Budget for the Treasurer.

This involves coordinating advice and analysis from both our department and across government.

Budget process

We work with the Department of Finance to prepare the Budget papers.

The papers set out the details of the Budget for parliament and for the Australian public.

Treasury portfolio reporting

Like all portfolios, we also have reporting responsibilities under the Budget.
