As an intern you’ll work on policies that shape Australia’s economic landscape.

Eligibility
We offer internship opportunities for up to 12 months to university students studying economics, law, data, statistics or demography.
You must be in either your:
- second to last year, or
- final year of studies and wanting to pursue an honours, masters or PhD in those degrees.
We’re seeking students:
- with an eagerness to learn and develop their skills and knowledge
- who are open to new opportunities
- with a flexible, curious and open mind
- with strong analytical and people capabilities
- who act with honesty, fairness and respect
- with innovative thinking.
Additional eligibility requirements
You must also:
- be an Australian citizen
- have performed well over the course of your studies
- be willing to complete the internship placement in either Canberra, Sydney or Melbourne
- be willing to get and maintain a valid Australian Government security clearance upon acceptance into the program
- undergo any police, character, health or other checks required.
Program opportunities

During the program you will:

Before you begin your application, make sure you meet the eligibility requirements.
Written application
When applications open, you’ll need to submit:
- your resume
- your current academic transcript
- a response to the application question.
Register your interest
To receive program updates, including when applications are open, register your interest
Online test
If we shortlist your application, we’ll ask you to complete an online test.
Reference checks
You’ll need to nominate referees who can comment on your work, skills and capabilities as a team member.
We may contact them after we review your test results.
Informal interview
Part of the process may include an invite to an informal interview.
Outcomes advised
We’ll offer successful candidates an intern position at Treasury. The start date will depend on security clearance outcomes.
