Our groups
Treasury is divided into 7 groups:
Fiscal Group
Fiscal Group aims to achieve sound and effective fiscal outcomes.
The group:
- delivers core government functions such as the Federal Budget and Intergenerational Report
- makes timely and accurate payments to the states and territories
- develops and delivers advice on government spending arrangements
- develops and delivers polices and regulations that reflect a whole-of-economy perspective.
Housing Group
Housing Group aims to improve housing outcomes for all Australians.
The group delivers policy advice, research and analysis, and manages programs in relation to:
- housing affordability and supply and
- homelessness.
International and Foreign Investment Group
International and Foreign Investment Group promotes Australia’s economic security and prosperity.
The group delivers policy advice and analysis on Treasury’s:
- international engagement strategy
- foreign investment policy.
The group advises on matters relating to:
- national and economic security
- international financial institutions
- foreign investment proposals and compliance.
The group supports the Treasurer’s international engagements and participation in the National Security Committee of Cabinet. It also supports the Foreign Investment Review Board.

Macroeconomic Group
The Macroeconomic Group monitors and assesses economic conditions in Australia and overseas.
The group provides advice on:
- formulating and implementing effective macroeconomic policy
- monetary and fiscal policy
- labour market issues.
Markets Group
The Markets Group advises on policy processes and reforms that:
- promote a secure financial system and sound corporate practices
- remove barriers to competition in product and service markets
- protect consumers.
Revenue Group
Revenue Group advises on and assists in formulating and implementing:
- government taxation
- retirement income policies and legislation.
It also provides information on material changes to taxation revenue forecasts and projections.
Small Business, Corporate and Law Group
Small Business, Corporate and Law Group:
- delivers corporate, legal and legislative services to the department, ministers and agencies
- provides policy advice and delivers programs and regulatory functions to support small business resilience and growth.
